President Trump on Thursday released a statement after meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss the United States acquiring Greenland from Denmark, which has sent shockwaves throughout NATO.
The President had announced on Tuesday that he would meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and “the various parties” on his planned acquisition of Greenland, which he described as “imperative for National and World Security.” Rutte expressed his commitment to “finding a way forward on Greenland” in a text message shared publicly by the President.
Prior to the meeting, Trump savaged Denmark for its refusal to negotiate over Greenland. “I’ll be discussing it with this man right here,” he said, alluding to his conversation with Rutte. “He’s frankly more important.”

Trump also roasted a reporter who asked what he meant when he said he would remember if Denmark refused to make a deal and what consequences they would face.
Trump on Wednesday delivered remarks at the World Economic Forum, where he rebuked Europe’s globalist policies of unvetted mass migration and encouraged other countries to follow America’s lead by closing their borders.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump also made his case for taking Greenland, calling for “immediate negotiations,” highlighting America’s unique ability to defend the island from Chinese and Russian influence with a thinly veiled threat to any country that seeks to defend it from US control with its military.
“No nation or group of nations is in any position to be able to secure Greenland, other than the United States. We’re a great power, much greater than people even understand,” Trump said. “I think they found that out two weeks ago in Venezuela.”
“This enormous unsecured Island is actually part of North America on the northern frontier of the Western Hemisphere,” the President further argued. “That’s our territory.”

This comes after Trump slapped Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland with 10% tariffs, effective February 1, in response to troop movements to defend Greenland from US forces. The 10% tariffs were set to increase to 25% on June 1, and will be “due and payable until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland,” Trump said.
However, the scheduled tariffs have been suspended as negotiations continue, Trump said.
“Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations,” Trump announced on Truth Social.
He further said that discussions on America’s Golden Dome defense system for the Arctic island are underway.
“Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others,” he said, have been tasked with leading the negotiations and reporting back to him.

Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st. Additional discussions are being held concerning The Golden Dome as it pertains to Greenland. Further information will be made available as discussions progress. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations — They will report directly to me. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
