Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) revealed on Friday that his wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords, “laughed and laughed” when she heard Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had ordered an investigation into Kelly for potentially unlawful conduct under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
The Pentagon announcement came after Kelly and five other far-left lawmakers, each with military or intelligence backgrounds, released a shocking video calling for U.S. troops to defy President Trump’s orders.
The group repeatedly told service members: “You can refuse illegal orders” and “You must refuse illegal orders.”

The Department of War responded, confirming it is now considering recalling Senator Kelly to active duty for court-martial proceedings.
Hegseth issued a formal memorandum on November 25 to the Secretary of the Navy outlining “potentially unlawful conduct by retired U.S. Navy Captain Kelly,” citing the viral video as undermining military discipline and good order.
President Trump immediately blasted the Democrats’ video, calling their behavior seditious and demanding accountability.
“SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Thursday morning.
Hegseth later publicly mocked Kelly for posting a selfie defending himself, while wearing his medals out of order and his Navy uniform incorrectly.
“So ‘Captain’ Kelly… not only did your sedition video intentionally undercut good order & discipline, but you can’t even display your uniform correctly,” Hegseth wrote. “Your medals are out of order & rows reversed. When/if you are recalled to active duty, it’ll start with a uniform inspection.”
In a newly posted video, Kelly recounted the moment he read Hegseth’s announcement aloud to his wife.

And by the second sentence, she started laughing. She laughed and laughed. She laughed through the whole thing because she realized two things: One, that guy’s a joke. Number two, I’m not backing down.”
