Feel good story of the day.
88-year-old Army veteran Ed Bambas wept as he was presented with nearly $2 million from generous GoFundMe donors this week.
Bambas, who spent 40 years working at General Motors, was forced to unretire and go back to work at a grocery store in Detroit, Michigan, after his wife passed away.
Samuel Weidenhofer, an Australian YouTuber, recently approached Bambas while he was at work at the grocery store and asked him about his life story.
Bambas candidly told Weidenhofer about how the bills piled up when his wife was really sick. He said he lost his pension and healthcare coverage.
The elderly Army veteran said he had to sell the house to make it through the tough times. His wife passed away 7 years ago and he visits her grave every day.
Bambas said he works 5 days a week, 8 hours a day – a full time job – at 88 to make ends meet.
Weidenhofer asked Bambas, “What’s your dream?
He replied, “Live a little of somewhat the life I was hoping for.”

Weidenhofer secretly set up a GoFundMe for Bambas earlier this week and it raised more than $1.8 million.
“I want to introduce you all to Ed Bambas, a man I met recently in a Detroit supermarket who completely humbled me,” he wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Ed is 88 years old, an Army veteran, and he still works five days a week, eight hours a day. He has never received the pension he earned after a lifetime of hard work, and he lost his wife years ago.”
“Despite everything, Ed shows up every day with quiet dignity, strength, and perseverance. His story is a stark reminder that too many of our seniors, especially veterans face incredible challenges just to survive,” he wrote.
“Ed fought for his country, he worked his whole life, and now it’s our turn to fight for him. If you’ve ever been moved by someone’s courage, if you believe our elders and veterans deserve dignity, please consider contributing. Even sharing this story can help us reach more people who want to make a difference,” Weidenhofer wrote.
Weidenhofer helped raise over $1.8 million dollars and presented Bambas with the GoFundMe check to help him retire.
Bambas cried as he received the money and said it is what dreams are made of.
