In an interview on the Shawn Ryan Show, Brian Harpole, Charlie Kirk’s head of security, publicly revealed text messages with Utah Valley University Police Chief Jeff Long in which they discussed the rooftop vulnerabilities and the chief vowed, “I got you covered.”
The exchange took place in the days leading up to Kirk’s September 10 speaking event at UVU, where the Turning Point USA founder was fatally shot by a gunman who is said to have fired from a rooftop position.

Speaking to Chief Long, Harpole informed him that he was told students had access to rooftops and walkways directly above the area where Kirk would be speaking.
When asked if he wanted access to the roof, Harpole replied that it would be ideal to either lock it down or allow one of his own men to post up there.
Chief Long responded: “I got you covered.”
Harpole thanked him, but did not follow up or ask him what that meant.
Neither of the men involved in the conversation clarified who would be covering the roof, whether private security or law enforcement.
Harpole indicates that he believed this meant law enforcement would be covering the rooftops.
But he didn’t promise to cover the roof, the conversation was to all the security team access.
Nowhere in the text exchange doesn’t anyone suggest that the UVU campus police will cover the rooftops.

According to Harpole, no UVU personnel were ever placed on the rooftops, and the security never materialized.
“Why this hasn’t come out and why he won’t stand up like a man and admit this, I don’t know,” Harpole said in the interview.
Harpole also detailed other critical security gaps that day, including that UVU and the Orem Police Department failed to provide drone overwatch or rooftop sniper coverage despite pre-event planning meetings.

Local law enforcement drone units were on site but never deployed because UVU never requested them, he said.
Harpole also claimed the private security team was legally prohibited from flying their own drones due to airspace restrictions.
Kirk is said to have been gunned down with a single .30-06 rifle round from a scoped Mauser Model 98 bolt-action rifle.
Tyler Robinson, 22, a leftist with a transgender furry boyfriend, has been arrested for the murder and is facing the death penalty if convicted.
