ICE officers arrested Jorge Armando Melendez-Gonzalez, 27, after Fairfax County officials refused to honor an ICE immigration detainer and released him back into the community.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has once again done the job that local officials refused to do—protect the American public.
Federal officers in Washington, D.C. arrested 27-year-old Jorge Armando Melendez-Gonzalez, an illegal alien from El Salvador with an extensive record of violence, after Fairfax County, Virginia, twice ignored ICE detainers and released him back into the community.
Melendez-Gonzalez’s criminal history is staggering.
WATCH: The Real Reason Democrats Are Shutting Down the Government
Since illegally crossing the U.S. border in 2015, he has been arrested ten times and charged with 19 crimes, including malicious shooting, unlawful wounding, assault and battery, assault on a family member, grand larceny, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Despite being ordered deported in 2016, he repeatedly reoffended—and local authorities repeatedly let him go.
Fairfax County’s refusal to cooperate with ICE’s detainers exemplifies the deadly consequences of sanctuary policies.
Twice—in August 2023 and again in July 2025—the county was notified that Melendez-Gonzalez was a removable criminal alien.
Twice, officials ignored the federal request and chose to release him.
The county engaged in a clear and deliberate act of defiance against the law, one that placed innocent people at risk.
When sanctuary jurisdictions refuse to honor ICE detainers, they undermine the very purpose of law enforcement.
ICE exists to remove dangerous criminals who have no right to be in the United States. Yet when counties like Fairfax refuse to cooperate, they allow violent offenders to roam free until tragedy strikes.
Democrats have framed sanctuary cities as symbols of “compassion,” when in reality, they represent pure negligence.
The victims of that negligence are the law-abiding residents who expect their local governments to uphold public safety, not play politics with it.
President Trump’s administration continues to emphasize the need for strong immigration enforcement precisely because of cases like this.
ICE’s Washington field office acted decisively to capture Melendez-Gonzalez, ensuring that one of the region’s most dangerous illegal aliens can no longer threaten the community.
Their work is a testament to why immigration enforcement cannot depend on the cooperation of sanctuary counties—it requires federal strength, coordination, and an unrelenting commitment to public safety.
Every time ICE officers remove a violent illegal alien from American soil, they reaffirm the rule of law and protect the lives of countless citizens.
The agency’s mission is not political, but moral.
The arrest of Jorge Armando Melendez-Gonzalez proves once again that when ICE acts, Americans are safer, and when sanctuary policies interfere, lives are put at risk.
