Putin and Trump: the end of the détente?
Peace-loving people in the US, in Russia and around the world are having a tough Friday, as it arises that the war of words between President Donald J. Trump, and the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitri Medvedev, has now escalated to a scary degree.
Trump has announced in a Truth Social post that he has deployed two nuclear-capable submarines to ‘appropriate regions’ (i.e. within range of Russian targets).
“Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.
Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump said on Truth Social.
How on Earth did we get here? A few weeks ago we had normalization talks – and now, nuclear subs!
Back in June, Trump had already blasted Medvedev for a tweet on the Iran crisis:
“Did I hear Former President Medvedev, from Russia, casually throwing around the ‘N word’ (Nuclear!), and saying that he and other Countries would supply Nuclear Warheads to Iran?
Did he really say that or, is it just a figment of my imagination? If he did say that, and, if confirmed, please let me know, IMMEDIATELY. The ‘N word’ should not be treated so casually.
I guess that’s why Putin’s “THE BOSS.” By the way, if anyone thinks our ‘hardware’ was great over the weekend, far and away the strongest and best equipment we have, 20 years advanced over the pack, is our Nuclear Submarines.
They are the most powerful and lethal weapons ever built, and just launched the 30 Tomahawks — All 30 hit their mark perfectly. So, in addition to our Great Fighter Pilots, thank you to the Captain and Crew!”
The feud restarted with Medvedev’s comment on Trump’s new 10-day ultimatum for Russia to sign peace with Ukraine.
Warmonger Lindsey Graham responded, and Medvedev torched ‘gramps’.
Trump came back with a very serious warning: “Tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!”
By now, the world was shuddering, since neither Trump nor Medvedev ever let go of a beef, and sure enough, Medvedev gave a chilling answer:
“About Trump’s threats against me on his personal network Truth, which he banned from operating in our country
If some words of the former president of Russia cause such a nervous reaction from such a formidable US president, it means Russia is right in everything and will continue on its own path.
And about the ‘dead economy’ of India and Russia and the ‘entering dangerous territory’ – well, let him remember his favorite movies about ‘the walking dead”, as well as how dangerous the non-existent in nature ‘dead hand’ can be.”
For those who don’t know, the ‘Dead Hand’ is a Russian nuclear that guarantees full nuclear retaliation if their leadership is eliminated.
So, now, Trump want from words to actions, and deployed nuclear-capable submarines to the ‘appropriate regions’.
Pray for peace.
This is a developing story: stay tuned for developments.
