WATCH: California Rep. Barragán Claims LA Riots are ‘Peaceful’ Protests on CNN as Footage of Burning Car Plays Next to Her

Democrat California Rep. Nanette Barragán claimed that President Donald Trump is targeting “peaceful protests” as a video of a burning car played next to her during an interview with CNN on Sunday.

There have been riots all over Southern California as far-left agitators attempt to stop Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.

Barragán was speaking with anchor Dana Bash about the riots during CNN’s State of the Union.

“The president is sending the National Guard because he doesn’t like the scenes,” Barragán said, while the network played video footage from the riots. “He doesn’t like the scenes of people peacefully protesting.”

As Barragán discussed “scenes of people peacefully protesting,” a video of a car engulfed in flames played beside her.

Trump has federalized 2,000 members of the California National Guard to tackle the riot problem, as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom have been asleep at the wheel.

Barragán claimed that the rioters were not the real protesters and that the event had started as a “peaceful protest” before turning into a riot.

“Those are not the people that are coming out to protest immigration,” the Democrat politician said. “We agree that if you’re being violent, you should be arrested. You should be prosecuted. There is no disagreement on that.”

Trump only deployed the National Guard once the rioting began.

Barragán shared the interview in a post on X and wrote, “We’ve been told to prepare for 30 straight days of ICE enforcement in LA County. Sending 2,000 Natl Guard troops into our communities is not about safety — it’s about escalation. People are angry, and I understand why.”

She added, “But I want to remind everyone in LA: violence is not the answer. If you protest, do it peacefully.”
