Former North Carolina Dem Gov. Roy Cooper Deletes Post Showing Himself Presenting ID to Vote

Former North Carolina Democratic Governor Roy Cooper quietly deleted a social media post on Thursday that appeared to show him presenting a voter ID at the polls.

As early voting kicked off across North Carolina, Cooper initially posted a series of three photographs to his X account documenting his trip to the polls.

One of the now-deleted images appeared to show the former governor handing identification to a poll worker, something Cooper has long opposed mandating for everyday North Carolinians.

The original post included, according to Just the News:

A photo of Cooper appearing to present identification to election officials
A photo of Cooper greeting fellow voters
A third image showing him inside a voting booth

However, shortly after the post went live, the image that appeared to show Cooper presenting ID was removed and replaced with a revised version of the post.

“I know there’s a lot riding on this race, and I don’t take your vote for granted,” Cooper wrote in the edited post. “You can count on me to represent all North Carolinians in the Senate. I exercised my civic duty today, and I hope you’ll join me.”

The deletion did not go unnoticed.

Congressman Brad Knott wrote, “We should all take a moment to celebrate the unique and profound capabilities of Roy Cooper for …. showing an ID before voting.”

Rep. Brenden Jones, Majority Leader of the NC House, wrote on X, “Roy Cooper is shameless. For years Cooper trashed voter ID, vetoed our bills, called it wrong, unfair, you name it. Then he literally posts himself happily handing over his ID to vote… and the second he gets called out, he deletes it.”

Well, would you look at that? Our very own Roy Cooper, who is running for Senate, is showing ID to vote! Well, well, well—it would seem it really is that simple.

Oh, and he has since deleted this post because he knows that voter ID makes sense. pic.twitter.com/CXhJhA54Fh

Former chairperson of the RNC Michael Whatley wrote on X, “Today, Cooper showed how easy it is to use an ID to vote. I strongly support the SAVE America Act and will always fight to protect our elections.”

Meanwhile, here’s a video of Roy Cooper refusing to support the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), legislation that would require proof of citizenship to register and a voter ID in federal elections.
