A so called healthcare worker formerly employed at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health was terminated after posting a series of disturbing TikTok videos that encouraged violent and harmful actions against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The “nurse”, who identified herself online under the handle @Redheadredemption, posted multiple videos featuring the hashtags #resist and #staytoxic. In the now-deleted clips, she suggested that medical professionals fill syringes with saline or the paralytic drug succinylcholine to use as deterrents against ICE agents. She also proposed soaking poison ivy in water and spraying the resulting solution at officers using water guns.
Additional posts urged single women to identify ICE agents on dating apps such as Tinder and Hinge and spike their drinks with laxatives to “incapacitate” them. In one video, she even suggested placing dead fish in hotel rooms where ICE agents were staying. VCU Health confirmed that the employee had been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Following the internal review, the hospital announced the nurse’s dismissal. Stating, “Following an investigation, the individual involved in the social media videos is no longer employed by VCU Health,” the institution said in a statement. “VCU Health has fulfilled its reporting requirements under Virginia state law.”
This coincides with a separate incident involving threats made against an ICE agent in Minnesota. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on January 25 released the audio of a voicemail left for the officer that contained severe verbal abuse and violent wishes toward the agent and his family. In the recording, the caller said, “I hope your wife dies. I hope your mom and dad die. I hope everything wrong that could go on in your life happens,” continuing with a stream of explicit and threatening remarks. The message also included sexually explicit insults and a wish that the agent be struck by a transit vehicle or face divorce due to infidelity.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin condemned the threats, attributing the rise in such incidents to what she called “sanctuary politicians” who have “vilified” federal law enforcement agencies through persistent negative rhetoric. According to DHS data, ICE officers have seen an 8,000% increase in death threats and a 1,300% increase in physical assaults during the current administration.
