Colorado Governor Jared Polis Admits Tina Peters Sentence is ‘Harsh’ — Opens Door to Possible Commutation!

Colorado Governor Jared Polis has signalled that he may reconsider the nine-year prison sentence imposed on former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters.

Speaking with a local CBS affiliate, Polis admitted the punishment was “harsh” and said he was considering a potential commutation of Peters, who was seeking to blow the whistle on the fraud that took place during the 2020 presidential election.

“She got a sentence that was harsh. It was a nine-year sentence,” Polis told CBS Colorado in an interview aired Thursday night.

“So we always look at people’s sentences. And when you have people that are elderly — people in their 70s or 80s in our system — how much of a threat to society are they, and how do we balance that in a way that makes sure they can spend their last few years at home?”

Peters, who is a 70-year-old Gold Star Mother who suffers from various health problems, is currently serving her sentence at a state prison in Pueblo.

Among her alleged crimes was preserving evidence from the 2020 election that she was instructed to delete, despite laws requiring records to be retained for a specified period of time.

The Gateway Pundit has reported extensively on Peters’ persecution, which included being moved to solitary confinement for over two weeks after being taunted by fellow inmates.

Meanwhile, Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold made clear she wants Peters to remain incarcerated.

“Tina Peters has done more to undermine confidence in our elections than any other Coloradan, and is rightly facing accountability for the harm she has caused to election workers, our democracy, and the state,” Griswold said Friday in a statement responding to The Denver Post.

“I am deeply concerned at any indication of caving to this unhinged President.”

President Trump recently pardoned Peters, although that pardon cannot override state law.

“Democrats have been relentless in their targeting of TINA PETERS, a patriot who simply wanted to make sure that our elections were fair and honest,” Trump said at the time. “Tina is sitting in a Colorado prison for the ‘crime’ of demanding honest elections.”

“Today I am granting Tina a full pardon for her attempts to expose voter fraud in the rigged 2020 presidential election.”
