An individual has been busted after perhaps trying to physically harm the vice-president of the United States.

The Associated Press reported this morning that the Secret Service apprehended an unidentified man after attempting to break into JD Vance’s mansion in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a hammer and causing other property damage. He was then taken into custody by the Cincinnati Police Department.

Police reportedly heard a loud noise at the home just after midnight, where they located the weapon-wielding crazy person.

The outlet also revealed that the man also vandalized a Secret Service vehicle on his way up the home’s driveway.

Thankfully, Vance and his family were not home at the time.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old William DeFoor.

A Secret Service spokeman released the following statement to the Daily Mail:

An adult male was taken into custody by the Cincinnati Police Department after being detained by US Secret Service personnel for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with the Vice President.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, January 5, the man was physically detained by Secret Service agents assigned to the Vice President’s home.

The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and the Vice President and his family were not in Ohio.

The residence, which overlooks the Ohio River and spans 2.3 acres, serves as a second home for Vance and his family.

The Vice President and his wife, Usha, currently live with their three children at the Naval Observatory in Washington, DC.

The couple also owns a property on Capitol Hill, according to the Daily Mail.

The two used to own a farmhouse in Alexandria, Virginia. It was sold in March of last year.

Police have not released a motive for the break-in at this time.

WLWT reports that DeFoor has been charged with criminal damaging/endangering, obstructing official business, and criminal trespass, which are all misdemeanors. He has also been charged with one count of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.

Vance released the following statement on X regarding the incident:

I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I’m grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly. We weren’t even home as we had returned already to DC.

One request to the media: we try to protect our kids as much as possible from the realities of this life of public service. In that light, I am skeptical of the news value of plastering images of our home with holes in the windows.
