Danger in the seven seas.
Navigation around the world is suffering the consequences of widespread geopolitical tensions.
We have Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey in the Black Sea, the Houthis in the Red Sea, the US and Venezuela in the Caribbean, Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden… and, of course, the Iranians in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Wednesday (24), Iran’s Revolutionary Guard naval forces seized a foreign oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian authorities said the vessel was smuggling fuel.
Euronews reported:
“Authorities detained 16 foreign crew members but did not reveal their nationalities or the tanker’s flag, Tehran-run state media reported.
The vessel was carrying approximately 4 million liters of fuel when it was intercepted, according to Mojtaba Ghahramani, a provincial justice department official quoted by IRNA news agency.”

Back in November, Iranian forces seized another ship in the Hormuz Strait for alleged violations that included illegal cargo.
“A fifth of globally traded oil and a quarter of seaborne oil passes through the narrow Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has repeatedly warned it could block the waterway, whilst the US Navy’s 5th Fleet, based in Bahrain, maintains a presence to ensure shipping lanes remain open.”
