While the government was shut down by Chuck Schumer-led Democrats, depriving their fellow Americans of pay, some workers continued to come to work each day to keep our airports and planes safe.
In November, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stepped into the chaos of the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history and came out swinging for the American worker as Trump promised.
Following President Trump’s demand that all air-traffic controllers “get back to work,” he promised a $10,000 bonus to those who stayed on the job.
“For those Air Traffic Controllers who were GREAT PATRIOTS, and didn’t take ANY TIME OFF for the ‘Democrat Shutdown Hoax,’ I will be recommending a BONUS of $10,000 per person for distinguished service to our Country.”
“For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU,” the president added.
Secretary Noem appeared at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston in November and began personally handing $10,000 bonus checks to more than 20 TSA officers who refused to sit idle while the rest of Washington shut down.

“I would like to first and foremost thank the Almighty God for just this moment. Having come this far, so far in my TSA career, I’m thankful for this moment.”
“To our President, thank you, thank you, thank you.”
“To the Secretary of Homeland Security, thank you. I’m truly just at a loss for words, but I’m grateful. I’m grateful, grateful, grateful. And again, I’m grateful. I don’t know what else to say, but I’m grateful.”
“And if I could do one more thing, I do the Trump dance.”
“Yeah, but I’m grateful. Thank you. And to the team here at DFW, thank you. I never thought I’d have taken the day off, but I just wanted to be here and wanted to see us get through this. We got through it. Thank you.”
