SHUTTLE DIPLOMACY: US Envoys Witkoff and Kushner in Berlin for a New Round of Peace Talks With Ukrainians and Europeans

Witkoff and Kushner: diplomatic efforts.

One way or another, this major diplomatic effort is bound to pay off in the end.

Often in international relations, negotiations are held ‘where an intermediary travels back and forth between parties who are unwilling to communicate directly with each other’.

They call this shuttle diplomacy.

Because of Donald J. Trump’s vision that peace and cooperation with Russia will open up an age of prosperity for all involved, the US is devoting considerable resources to try to bridge the positions of Moscow and Kiev, and bring about a peace settlement.

(Not a ‘ceasefire’ as many MSM outlets like to frame it.)

So, even if, like me, you are tired of the seemingly endless rounds of negotiation, we have to admit that it’s a heroic task worthy of our respect.

Today (14), U.S. envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Berlin for another round of talks intended to secure a deal to end the war in Ukraine.

Associated Press reported:

“U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were spotted in downtown Berlin by a photographer for German news agency dpa.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian, U.S. and European officials will hold a series of meetings in Berlin in the coming days.

‘Most importantly, I will be meeting with envoys of President Trump, and there will also be meetings with our European partners, with many leaders, concerning the foundation of peace — a political agreement to end the war’, Zelenskyy said in an address to the nation late Saturday.”

Washington is relentlessly trying to find common ground, but has also signaled that its patience has limits.

The question of control of Donetsk region, Ukraine’s NATO ambitions… there are a number of real issues still unresolved.

Zelensky, who has been criticized almost daily by Trump, is now very mindful to appear to be fully on board of the process.

“’The chance is considerable at this moment, and it matters for our every city, for our every Ukrainian community’, Zelensky said. ‘We are working to ensure that peace for Ukraine is dignified, and to secure a guarantee — a guarantee, above all — that Russia will not return to Ukraine for a third invasion’.”
