MyPillow founder and staunch Trump ally Mike Lindell officially announced his campaign for Governor of Minnesota on Thursday.
Lindell will be challenging incumbent Democrat Gov. Tim Walz, whom President Donald Trump recently called “retarded,” in the 2026 election.
The announcement, made during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, emphasized his plan to protect families from rising crime, ease burdensome taxes and regulations that stifle businesses, support those battling addiction, and improve Minnesota’s education system.
“I’m still standing; MyPillow is still standing; and now I want you to know that I will stand for you as the next governor of the state of Minnesota,” Lindell said.
The Republican gubernatorial candidate continued, “I will stand for you against the rampant fraud under Governor Walz. I will stand with you against a crime that threatens the safety of your family. I will stand for you against government-sponsored [unintelligible] your livelihood, via exploiting property taxes, excessive fees, and unfair sales tax. I’ll stand for you against unnecessary regulation that strangle the entrepreneurial spirit. I will stand for businesses of all sizes — small, medium, large, doesn’t matter. We need to defend those who provide our citizens with jobs that they need to… in turn take care of our families.”
“I will stand for those of you that are struggling with addiction,” Lindell added. “I will stand for you by making Minnesota’s education system one of the best. I am not alone in standing for you. I’ve never been alone. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has been standing beside me all the way. Through the good times and the bad, she’s never let me down; and with God’s grace, I will never let you down, either.”
Bannon called Lindell a “patriot” and a “fantastic leader.”

“One thing about Mike Lindell, there will be action,” Bannon stated. “It will be quite an unconventional run.”

Lindell joins a crowded field of about a dozen Republican candidates vying for the nomination, but his high profile and grassroots appeal could make him a frontrunner.
President Donald Trump has not yet endorsed anyone in the race.
Lindell’s journey from addiction recovery to building a successful business empire, all while championing conservative causes, has made him a wildly popular and beloved figure on the right.
The Associated Press noted, “While no Republican has won statewide office in Minnesota since 2006, the state’s voters have a history of making unconventional choices. They shocked the world by electing former professional wrestler Jesse Ventura as governor in 1998. And they picked a veteran TV pitchman in 1978 when they elected home improvement company owner Rudy Boschwitz as a U.S. senator.”
“Trump’s endorsement could be the key to which of several candidates wins the GOP nomination to challenge Walz. But Lindell said he doesn’t know what Trump will do, even though they’re friends, and said his campaign isn’t contingent on the president’s support,” the report added.
