Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino unloaded on New York Post columnist Miranda Devine on Monday, accusing her of running yet another coordinated “deep-state hit piece” on reform-minded FBI leadership.
Bongino wrote on X:
“Deep-state Devine strikes again. Miranda loves attacking our reform agenda with gossipy anecdotes from disgruntled former employees because she’s upset that her ‘reporting’ keeps falling apart under scrutiny.
You can always count on Miranda for a timed hit piece when the Director and I make big changes. Miranda prefers the old guard. I don’t. Full steam ahead.”

The blistering statement landed after Devine published an article in the New York Post portraying FBI Director Kash Patel as “in over his head,” a “clown,” “all f–ked up,” and running a “rudderless ship,” all claims based on anonymous sources, many from current and ex-FBI personnel.
Column’s up: Damning report labels FBI “rudderless ship” under Kash Patel and Dan Bongino who are accused of being preoccupied with social media and building “personal résumés” https://t.co/tH96Dt0fRF

Devine’s piece centers on a 115-page so-called assessment compiled by a self-appointed alliance of active and retired agents who openly admit they were embedded during the Biden-era FBI, a period marked by DEI obsession, political targeting, Russiagate hoaxes, retaliatory investigations, and record-low public trust.
Their critique:
– Patel is “inexperienced.”
– Bongino is “a clown.”
– Both are “too active on social media.”
– And both refuse to bow to the old-guard culture that ran the FBI into the ground.
One of the report’s major anecdotes is that Patel allegedly preferred to exit an FBI jet wearing a raid jacket with both Velcro patches attached.
Even more laughable, they accuse Patel of “taking credit” after the arrest of the Kirk assassin.
Another “scandal” described breathlessly in the report: Patel was upset that internal discussions about his firearm credential leaked from FBI Academy staff, and he wanted to know who leaked it, ordering polygraphs.
In any serious intelligence organization, leaks of internal security discussions would be treated as a major disciplinary issue.
But for Devine’s sources, rooting out leakers is “punitive.”
Buried deep in the article is an explosive admission. One of the sources admits that “Trump Derangement Syndrome remains alive and well under left-leaning factions embedded within the ranks of the FBI.”
They further reveal:
– Agents openly express contempt for the president.
– Field office televisions are tuned to left-wing propaganda channels, MS NOW (former MSNBC) and CNN.
– The Bureau’s recruitment pipeline prioritized left-leaning hires, especially from education backgrounds.
Assistant Director for Public Affairs at the FBI, Ben Williamson, also released a statement blasting the report from Devine:
“Kash and Dan took over an agency with approval rating below 40%. Knowing that, they came in as disrupters and are choosing to do things differently. Of course that’s going to receive criticism from the old guard and outside pundits. That’s to be expected.
What’s more surprising here is to see the New York Post elevating a dossier of anonymous complaints from current and ex-FBI personnel as some form of gospel.
Here’s also what they don’t tell you: the unconventional approach may get criticism, but the data says it’s working.
-Violent crime arrests: 100% INCREASE
-Espionage arrests: 40% INCREASE
-Homicide rate: Double digit DROP from 2024, on track for record low year
-Child victims identified or located: 23% INCREASE
-Nihilistic Violent Extremism arrests: Almost 500% INCREASE with FBI + partners
They’ve also turned over nearly 40,000 documents to Congress – by far a record, and in just 9 months. We have new major productions on cases like Arctic Frost nearly every week.
You can criticize the approach – but you can’t deny the numbers. And they’ve been historic with President Trump’s leadership. Kash, Dan, and Andrew all know challenging a bureaucracy comes with pushback but they still choose to do it. And frankly that’s what the voters demanded.”
