Colombia Supports Transition Proposal With Venezuelan Dictator Maduro Giving up Power in Exchange for a Guarantee of No Prosecution, and New Legitimate Elections Being Held

Will Maduro give up power for life and liberty?

For those of us not copied into the real intel on the US anti-narcotics operation in Latin America and the simultaneous siege of Venezuela, these are very confusing times.

There are just as many reported developments supporting the idea that a confrontation with dictator Nicolas Maduro is imminent as there are reasons to believe that negotiations can diffuse the situation.

Today, we learn that a Colombian minister supported a path for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to hand over power to a transition government.

This governing body would be tasked with organizing new elections.

This idea seems to be gaining favor over the alternative of a US intervention in Caracas.

Bloomberg reported:

“The transition proposal has been making the rounds in diplomatic circles in Washington, Caracas and beyond as a potential solution to the US standoff with Venezuela, while President Donald Trump amasses warships in the Caribbean. There’s no sign that Trump would be open to such an arrangement.

But Maduro might consent to the idea if guaranteed that he would be safe from persecution, Colombia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Rosa Villavicencio said Wednesday in an interview in Madrid.”

Colombia’s FM stated that the government backs a plan for Maduro to transfer power to a transitional body for organizing legitimate elections, emphasizing a peaceful resolution.

This marks a shift from President Gustavo Petro’s previous alliance with Maduro.

Colombia tried to walk back the statement, declaring to ‘respect the sovereignty of the sister nation of Venezuela’.

“Petro and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have called for new Venezuelan elections after the 2024 vote was widely condemned as fraudulent. A safe exit plan for Maduro could now be ‘the healthiest option’ but would require backing from the Venezuelan opposition, Villavicencio said.”

Maduro has been abandoned by his staunch ally, Colombia’s far-left President Gustavo Petro.
