WATCH: Trump Responds to Ted Cruz’s Presidential Ambitions

President Trump on Monday responded to reporting that Ted Cruz is “laying the groundwork” to run for President in 2028, where he would undoubtedly face Vice President JD Vance in the primary.

The Gateway Pundit reported earlier that the failed presidential candidate, Cruz, appears to be positioning himself to challenge Vice President JD Vance in 2028 by capitalizing on division within Trump’s base and taking a swipe at both Trump and Vance.

“When voices in our own movement push dangerous and misguided ideas, we can’t look the other way,” Cruze said in a statement to Axios.

“I won’t hesitate to call out those who peddle destructive, vile rhetoric and threaten our principles and our future. Silence in the face of recklessness is not an option,” he added, appearing to attack Trump and Vance for their support of Tucker Carlson.

Carlson came under fire from former never-Trumpers and RINOs like “Lyin” Ted Cruz, sparking a civil war within the MAGA Movement, over a recent interview on his channel with podcast host Nick Fuentes.

But Trump sided with free speech and Tucker Carlson on Sunday evening, telling reporters, “You can’t tell him who to interview.” He continued, “Meeting people, talking to people, like for somebody like Tucker, that’s what they do.”

Vice President Vance further defended Tucker’s son, Buckley Carlson, against a crazed Zionist reporter who attacked Buckley, who works in Vance’s office.

The Blaze correspondent Rebeka Zeljko asked the President to respond on Monday to reports that Cruz was potentially running in 2028 during an Oval Office press conference on Monday.

While Trump did not share his opinion on Cruz’s potential campaign, instead describing him as a “very good friend” and boasting his 2016 primary victory where Cruz was an opponent.

“But I’m not that surprised to hear that,” Trump said.

Zeljko: There was some news this morning from an Axios report that Senator Ted Cruz was laying the groundwork for a potential 2028 presidential run. Can I get your reaction? Would you— could you see yourself supporting him?

Trump: Well, he’s a friend of mine. I mean, I haven’t spoken to him about it. It’s a little early. It’s three and a quarter years. That’s a long time, but he’s a very good guy, he’s a very good friend of mine. You remember, we had a, quite a campaign against Ted, and it worked out quite nicely. Let’s see. Where are we? Oh we’re in the Oval Office.  But I’m not that surprised to hear that.
