Illinois Senate President Don Harmon
You truly cannot script irony like this.
A staffer for Illinois Senate President Don Harmon, a powerful Democrat leader who has long aligned himself with Illinois’ soft-on-crime, anti-police political machine, was robbed at knifepoint inside Harmon’s own Oak Park district office on Friday.
Yes, the same political class that spent years undermining law enforcement, tying police hands, and pushing “criminal justice reforms” is now shocked that violent criminals are running wild.
Authorities arrested 35-year-old Scott Loeffler, who allegedly walked into Harmon’s office, pulled a knife on a female staffer, and stole her iPhone, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, just after 11 a.m., at Harmon’s district office on West North Avenue.
The staffer, luckily unharmed, was simply doing her job when she let Loeffler in after believing he was a constituent.
As soon as the staffer briefly looked away, Loeffler allegedly whipped out a knife and grabbed her iPhone.
He then demanded, “Do you have a wallet?”
The staffer escaped into an adjoining room connected to Harmon’s campaign office, where a second assistant dialed 911. Harmon himself was reportedly in the building, just in another room, while the crime unfolded.
Sen. Harmon released a statement stating the robbery did not appear to be “politically motivated.”
“On Friday, a man entered the district office and confronted an employee with a knife. Thank God she is physically unharmed. The suspect is in custody and charged with armed robbery.
This incident does not appear to have been politically motivated.
I want to thank the Oak Park Police Department for a quick response, and I want to thank my staff for their bravery and unwavering commitment to public service. Their safety is my top priority.”

Harmon, whose party oversees a state drowning in carjackings, robberies, violent offenders released back into communities, and police departments stripped of resources, now finds crime literally at his doorstep.
Last month, Harmon proudly joined “Restore Justice” — a well-funded progressive criminal-justice advocacy group — to celebrate its 10-year anniversary.
Harmon has been a strong proponent of comprehensive criminal justice and police reforms, such as the SAFE-T Act and efforts to end “policing for profit.”
During the event, Harmon openly touted the very policies that have emboldened criminals and demoralized police across the state:
Ending “policing for profit” by requiring accountability of law enforcement agencies that seize property and a more transparent system for innocent property owners.
Expanding the number of convictions that are eligible to be sealed under Illinois law.
Reinstating parole in Illinois for youthful offenders who commit a crime before the age of 21 and are given long sentences for certain crimes.
Eliminated mandatory life sentences for certain juvenile offenders.
Makes someone under the age of 21 serving a life sentence for first degree murder eligible for parole review after serving 40 years or more of their sentence.
And now, the violence they allowed to flourish is coming back home, right into Democrat offices, onto their streets, and into their own communities.
