Self-Professed Socialist Poised to Win Seattle Mayoral Race After Surge of Mail-In Ballots — Unseating Democratic Incumbent

A far-left progressive in the style of New York City’s Zohran Mamdani is projected to win the Seattle mayoral race.

According to Politico, self-described socialist Katie Wilson, who co-founded the Transit Riders Union in 2011, now has an insurmountable lead over the incumbent Democratic Mayor Bruce Harrell.

Their report states:

With a dwindling number of ballots left to count, Katie Wilson led Mayor Bruce Harrell by just over 1,300 votes, according to results released Tuesday by King County Elections. The incumbent led by more than 10,000 votes the day after the election but mail-in ballots counted after Nov. 4 favored the challenger.

Harrell has not conceded but it was unlikely he can make up the difference with the ballots left to count, Democratic strategists said.

“Kate Wilson won 61.23% of the 6,121 ballots counted today. Huge percentage and her total is close to not requiring a recount,” Crystal Fincher, a Seattle-based political consultant, said by text after the latest results “I’m comfortable calling this race for Wilson now.”

Wilson, who like New York’s Zohran Mamdani is a self-described socialist, focused her campaign on affordability — highlighting her own struggles to afford life in Seattle. She supported a capital gains tax to raise revenue, a move opposed by Harrell, stronger protections for renters and improving public transit.

Some have speculated that Wilson’s projected victory may be the result of voter fraud, although those claims so far remain speculative.

Voter fraud in Seattle? Katie Wilson now leads incumbent Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell by 91 votes after ANOTHER BATCH OF VOTES WERE COUNTED ON MONDAY. Wasn’t the election a week ago???

Her victory comes just over a week after Zohran Mamdani’s landslide win in New York City, where he defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo, another result that underscores the Democratic Party’s alarming shift toward openly socialist candidates.

Wow. While we wait for the few remaining ballots to be counted, we feel like we have won this race. The recent drop put us nearly 1,400 votes ahead, just under the .5 percent threshold for a mandatory recount. pic.twitter.com/nWsIM8HfWr

Wilson will now lead the city of 750,000 people and the largest urban center in the Pacific Northwest.

Despite being a Democrat stronghold, Seattle remains one of America’s most dynamic economic centers, home to global giants Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing.

The city’s deep-water port also anchors a major share of trans-Pacific trade, cementing its status as one of the nation’s most vital commercial gateways.
