Srully Stein, 24, who now goes by the name Abby, left his Hasidic Jewish community at age 20 to transition.
New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s newest campaign ad is an insult to the intelligence of Jewish voters.
In a desperate attempt to rebrand his image before Election Day, Mamdani released a commercial featuring four women rabbis—including one who is transgender—praising him as a “fighter for affordability and safety.”
The ad, co-sponsored by Jews for Racial & Economic Justice, is designed to present Mamdani as a friend of the Jewish community.

In reality, it’s a manipulative tactic to disguise years of antisemitic behavior and radical activism.
The transgender rabbi featured, Abby Stein, is an Israeli-born activist who left New York’s ultra-Orthodox community after coming out in 2015.
Stein has since aligned herself with left-wing movements that oppose Israel and was even removed from a Biden White House event after demanding an end to U.S. aid to Israel.
Mamdani’s decision to use Stein and others as props for his campaign is not a gesture of inclusion—it’s political theater intended to confuse voters and shield himself from scrutiny.
Mamdani’s record tells a very different story. He has repeatedly supported the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate Israel economically and diplomatically.
The BDS campaign has been widely condemned by Congress, Jewish leaders, and even European governments as antisemitic.
Mamdani has also refused to condemn violent slogans like “Globalize the Intifada,” which glorify terror against Jews.
In July, a video surfaced of Mamdani mocking Hanukkah while dressed as an Orthodox Jew in a parody rap song. The footage exposed a pattern of behavior that cannot be brushed aside as a “misunderstanding.”
It revealed his long-standing disregard for Jewish traditions and religious identity, reinforcing earlier accusations of antisemitism.
Mamdani does not respect Jewish culture or values—he exploits them for political gain.
Despite this, polling shows that about 40% of New York Jews may still support him, proving how effectively his campaign has manipulated public perception.
Rabbi Yaakov Menken of the Coalition for Jewish Values condemned the ad for using Judaism as “false cover from accurate condemnation of his bigotry.”
Menken noted that Mamdani’s rhetoric mirrors “what was heard in Germany in the 1930s” — the normalization of antisemitism disguised as moral righteousness.
Abby Stein is starring in the Mamdani campaign video, attempting to appeal to the Jewish community.
Mamdani’s campaign is built on deceit. He parades rabbis in front of cameras while championing movements that demonize Israel and excuse violence against Jews.
New York deserves a leader who unites, not one who hides his hate behind religious façades and socialist slogans.
