Florida Senator Rick Scott is once again calling out Washington hypocrisy, blasting Democrats for voting to block pay for federal law enforcement and government employees while continuing to cash their own taxpayer-funded paychecks during the ongoing government shutdown.
Scott wrote on Monday in response to a post by FBI Director Kash Patel:
“@FBIDirectorKash is spot on. Democrats have voted time & time again to withhold pay for federal law enforcement & employees while cashing their own paychecks. We need to pass my No Budget, No Pay Act to hold Dems accountable for passing a budget or forgoing their paycheck.”
Patel had condemned the Senate for voting against paying FBI agents during the shutdown:
“Another day where 2/3 of the FBI goes without a paycheck, after 45 Senators (all of whom are still getting paid) voted against paying them last week. When law enforcement isn’t paid, it weakens our ability to keep America safe. We owe it to those who protect this nation to end the shutdown.”

Earlier this month, Scott reiterated his position during an interview on Fox News, saying that if Congress can’t get its act together and pass a budget, they shouldn’t be getting paid either.
“If you didn’t do your job in business, you didn’t get paid. You don’t show up and do your job, you don’t get paid. Why are we getting paid? We shouldn’t get paid if we don’t do our job.
We need to figure out how to work together to get our budgets done. It’s as simple as that.
So, you’re going to offer legislation to not get paid during lockdowns — during shutdowns?”
“Absolutely. I already have a bill. We’ve got a bill that says we don’t get paid during the shutdown. Ron Johnson’s got a bill that will ensure we never have shutdowns — that should pass also.
But on top of that, what are the Democrats doing? This is a clean resolution. All we’re doing is keeping the funding. Actually, the funding is too high — it’s still the Biden funding. But I don’t want to shut down the government, so I support it.
But the Democrats — they want a shutdown for whatever reason. How is this good for the country? Nobody wins with a shutdown.”

Scott’s proposal the No Budget, No Pay Act, was introduced in January.
The legislation would prohibit Members of Congress from receiving a paycheck until both chambers pass a budget resolution and all regular appropriations bills for that fiscal year. Importantly, it also bans retroactive pay for the period Congress fails to act.
According to an October 1 press release, the bill’s purpose is straightforward, to hold Washington politicians accountable to the same standard as ordinary Americans.
Senator Rick Scott said:
“I’ve made a promise to Florida families that I’ll do everything I can to make Washington work for them – that starts with reforming the tired, dysfunctional ways of Washington and making sure our government is always working in Americans’ best interests.
Right now, Washington’s dysfunction is at an all-time high after four years of the Biden-Harris administration, and it’s time to make a change. I’m excited to reintroduce key elements of my Make Washington Work plan to hold Congress accountable and work better for American families.
These proposals are common sense: if Congress doesn’t do its job, it shouldn’t get paid and those who receive welfare and are able to work should do so and contribute to our nation’s economy.
With President Trump back in the White House, we have a real opportunity to bring much-needed change to the federal government by getting these bills across the finish line and Making Washington Work for the American people.”
