A potential mass shooting was thwarted at Atlanta International Airport on Monday after police arrested a convicted felon with an AR-15 who threatened to “shoot up” the place.
The 49-year-old suspect, identified as Bill Joe Cagle, reportedly called his family on FaceTime and told them he was going to commit a mass shooting at Atlanta Airport.
Atlanta police called Cagle “mentally challenged.”

Atlanta police are scheduled to hold a press conference at 3 p.m. Monday to discuss an incident that occurred earlier in the day at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
According to a source within the department, a man was arrested after allegedly making threats to “shoot up” the airport. Police reportedly found an AR-15 or a similar firearm in the suspect’s vehicle.
Investigators believe the threats were made while the man was on a video call with a family member. The suspect was taken into custody at the airport.

Atlanta Police will hold a press conference with more details on the incident and arrest.
Police arrested Billy Cagle and charged him with making terroristic threats, criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
On Monday during a press conference, Atlanta police said they were familiar with Billy Cagle.
