One of the more ‘reasonable‘ Democrats in Congress decided to open his mouth on stage with debunked liberal talking points and got embarrassed in the process by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).
Jordan and California Congressman Ro Khanna, the Democrat in question, were on the Kennedy Center stage on Wednesday evening during a NewsNation town hall to debate the government shutdown and other issues like political division.
As TGP readers know, Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, decided to shut down the government at the beginning of the month in an effort to ensure the welfare of illegal aliens, higher taxes by repealing Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill, surgeries for transgender minors, and more garbage.
The measures, one a clean bill by the GOP and the loaded Democrat bill, both needed 60 votes to pass to break a filibuster. The GOP-backed measure failed to pass in a 55-45 vote—Rand Paul voted with the Democrats.
But a cocky Khanna mocked the idea that Democrats caused the shutdown. He asserted that because Republicans have the Presidency along with majorities in both houses of Congress, Democrats are completely powerless to stop anything from passing.
Of course, Khanna neglected to mention that the Democrats are using a Senate rule they tried to abolish when they last had the majority: the filibuster. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they have discovered the tool is useful.
Jordan calmly schooled Khanna by explaining that not only do you need 60 votes to pass legislation in the Senate, but Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, one of the Democrats who supports keeping the government open, was speaking at the town hall before them.
Khanna could have reached out to Fetterman but chose not to. Regardless, he should know how the Senate works because he has been in Congress since 2017.

KHANNA: You know why nobody believes this Chuck Schumer thing? The country thinks he’s too ineffective to actually be shutting things down!
Does anyone believe that the Democrats are actually like running things? You got Donald Trump, you got the Republicans in the Senate…So the idea that the Democrats are just blocking things is just unbelievable!
JORDAN: To get something passed in the Senate, you need 60 votes. The first guest on Chris’s show (Fetterman) is one of those Democrats who voted with Republicans. But they need five more.
You’ve got to understand basic civics, how Congress works.
