Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has put to rest questions about his political ambitions following his two terms as the chief election official in the Peach State, announcing his run for governor.
Last month, The Gateway Pundit reported that Raffensperger had been banned from running for office in Georgia as a Republican through a resolution passed at the GOP convention in June. The resolution, which states he “does not have the faith and confidence of the Georgia Republican Party,” is mostly ceremonial and has no actual method of enforcement.
Gabriel Sterling Departs Georgia Secretary of State Office Following June GOP Resolution Banning Raffensperger From Running as Republican
Carter Mitchell, a convention delegate from Bibb County, said, “This is over issues with the…Dominion voting machines [and] his role as Secretary of State” and called it “a very, relatively popular…resolution.”
Newly reelected Party chair Josh McKoon said the resolution represents the sense of the convention delegates, but ultimately the party must follow the law, according to reporting from WABE.
Raffensperger is likely to face off against Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Attorney General Chris Carr in the GOP primaries. Jones was one of the alternate Trump electors following the 2020 election, riddled with fraud, corruption, and a sheer lack of transparency in the Peach State.
In The Gateway Pundit’s reporting from last month on Raffensperger’s dwindling popularity with the Republican Party, it was also reported that Gabriel Sterling would be leaving the Secretary of State office as he started a business called Sterling Innovative Solutions.
Earlier this month, Sterling had a change of heart as he also announced he will be running to replace his former boss as the Secretary of State.
