The Associated Press has confirmed that Charlie Kirk is alive, but in critical condition, after being shot at a Turning Point USA event in Utah on Wednesday.

The AP reported just before 4 p.m.:

Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was in critical condition at a Utah hospital Wednesday after being shot at a college event, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. A suspect was in custody, the college said.

Michael Mallinson, a registered Democrat from Utah, has been taken into custody for the shooting.

Graphic video footage circulating online captures the terrifying moment: Kirk is mid-response to a student’s question about mass shootings when the shot is fired. He recoils violently, slumping in his chair as blood gushes from the left side of his neck. “Oh my God! Run, run!” screams are heard as attendees flee the quad

Turning Point USA confirmed the shooting in a statement, with public relations manager Aubrey Laitsch saying, “We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie.”

The situation is currently unfolding and TGP will be providing updates as more information becomes available.
