Catholic Priests and Monks from Around the World Enjoy Their First Meeting with the New Pope

Pope Leo XIV greets and entertains Catholic priests and monks from around the world at the Vatican in Rome.

The new Pope, Pope Leo XIV, is entertaining visitors including Catholic priests and monks in Rome in his first days as the leader of the Catholic church.  This humble man from Chicago is the first American Pope and the first Catholic Pope from North America.

Pope Leo XIV knows multiple languages and he shows it.  In a recent event in the Vatican where the Pope greeted and entertained numerous church leaders, including priests and monks from around the world, the new Pope spoke in Italian.

Here are Pope Leo XIV’s remarks:

Your presence reminds us of an important thing, which is that all of us, although called to be for our brothers and sisters, ministers of Christ, and doctors of souls, are first of all, in our turn, sick people in need of healing.

As St. Augustine says, using the image of a boat, “All of us in this life have like cracks of our own mortality and fragility, through which sin enters from the waves of this century”. And the Holy Bishop of Ippona proposes a remedy for evil: “To empty ourselves and not sink, let us take up this exhortation. Let us forgive!

Let us forgive, because everywhere, “in our parishes, in our communities, in our associations and movements, in short, wherever there are Christians, anyone can find an oasis of mercy”.

Here is a video of the Pope welcoming his guests to the Vatican.

God Bless this new Pope and Christians around the world.
