Fact Check: Whoopi Goldberg of ‘The View’ Claims ‘It’s About Time” President Trump Honored Gold-Star Families’

Last week, The Gateway Pundit reported that the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, and ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic were calling on the hosts of The View to tone back their political rhetoric and constant attacks on President Donald Trump and to broaden their scope outside of politics.

Not only did the hosts not heed the recommendation, but they doubled down with more baseless attacks on President Trump, this time invoking our fallen service members on Memorial Day.

After speaking at both the West Point graduation and at Arlington National Cometary this past Memorial Day weekend, Whoopi Goldberg took it as an opportunity to spread blatant falsehoods about President Trump’s reverence for our fallen servicemen and women.  On The View, she said:

“It was about time we heard him give the Gold Star families their due.  It was about time he did that.  Because he spoke and said ‘we are proud of our Gold Star families.’  This is the first time unless you’ve heard him do it?”

The question was directed at Alyssa Farrah Griffin, the former White House Communications Director during President Trump’s first term, who responded, “No, he’s hosted them at the White House during his first term.”

Goldberg then broadens the goalposts and says, “Right, but the last time we collectively heard him talking about Gold Star Families, it was not positive.”  She doesn’t clarify when or what the 45th and 47th President said that she is referring to, however, to imply it was “about time we heard him give the Gold Star families their due” shows an absolute lack of simple research.

Whoopi Goldberg falsely claims Trump has never acknowledged Gold Star families, then doubles down when she’s corrected

The comment by Goldberg is utterly absurd and should be interpreted as satirical if there was any potential of it actually being humorous.

President Trump has a long history of public support for our Gold Star families.  For example, in September of 2020, President Trump issued a “Proclamation on Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, 2020” stating:

Today, and every day, we hold in our hearts those who have answered the knock on the door, accepted the flag folded with precision, said their final farewell, and borne the absence of their fallen hero.  Gold Star Families deserve our utmost respect, admiration, and support for their tenacity and resilience, and for the work they do to preserve the memory of those who gave their lives to our Nation.

Here is President Trump honoring Gold Star families in his first Memorial Day speech in 2017:

And again in 2018:

And in 2020 despite efforts to lock the country down during COVID-19:

President Trump’s unwavering commitment to our servicemen and women is a staunch contrast to Joe Biden, who, in addition to the bloody withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan in 2021, once told an audience of U.S. servicemembers to “clap for that, you stupid bastards” during a March 2016 speech at Al-Dhafra Air Base in the UAE.  Of course, outlets like USAToday and Politifact claim ‘it was just a joke!’

I forgot about this gem

Or Kamala Harris, who posted “Enjoy the long weekend” on Twitter on Memorial Day Weekend in 2021, without making any mention of our Gold Star families or our fallen servicemembers.
