Swiss Think-Tank: US Intel Investigating Anthony Blinken For Potential Involvement in Romania’s Globalist Coup

A Swiss think tank has reported that U.S. intelligence agencies, allegedly acting under the directives of the Trump administration, are investigating former Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his assistant James O’Brien for purportedly pressuring Romanian authorities to annul the country’s presidential election results.

According to the report, Blinken—an arch-neocon and influential figure in America’s globalist, interventionist foreign policy establishment—collaborated with former Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu to pressure officials in Bucharest into annulling Călin Georgescu’s first-round presidential victory, thereby ensuring Romania remained aligned with pro-NATO and globalist interests.

The Diplomatic Affairs, a Geneva-based think tank focused on assessing global geopolitical developments, told The Gateway Pundit that its report is based on information they received from a source within the U.S. intelligence community.

The allegations raise serious concerns about the extent of foreign interference, particularly from the Biden administration, in Romania’s domestic politics. The Swiss think tank’s report suggests that Blinken and his associates actively lobbied key Romanian figures, including former President Klaus Iohannis and Acting Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, to invalidate the election under the pretext of Russian interference.

The report, if true, lends support to statements made last month by Richard Grenell, former Special Envoy under Trump, who asserted that it was Biden, not Russia, that interfered in Romania’s recent election.

Romania, a southeastern EU member state long plagued by endemic corruption, was thrust into political turmoil last December when its Constitutional Court annulled the surprise first-round victory of Călin Georgescu, an anti-establishment candidate critical of NATO.

The court justified its unprecedented decision—denounced by critics as a democracy-killing coup d’état—by citing alleged ‘Russian interference’ and claiming that front-runner Călin Georgescu had benefited from Moscow’s online influence operations. However, critics contend that no concrete evidence has been presented to substantiate these allegations, further deepening public skepticism and fueling political unrest.

Călin Georgescu, before being banned by Romania’s election committee from participating in the re-run of the first-round presidential elections, was leading with over 45% of the vote, according to polls. The same polls placed the second-place candidate, Crin Antonescu, at just 20%.

Romanian citizens, fed up with decades of political corruption at the highest levels, are now questioning whether their nation’s sovereignty has been compromised.

Massive protests have erupted in major cities, with demonstrators demanding transparency and the reinstatement of the electoral process. Georgescu’s supporters argue that the annulment of his victory represents an assault on democracy, engineered by external forces seeking to maintain control over Romania’s geopolitical stance.

We demand the resumption of the second round of elections, an end to arrests and political persecution, and no more EU and NATO interference!

The think-tank writes:

The interim leadership under Ilie Bolojan is struggling to maintain control as the government appears frozen, unable to navigate the turbulent waters of political strife. Public confidence in the political class is at an all-time low, with widespread calls for the resumption of the electoral process. Yet, the path forward remains unclear.”

Economically, Romania is beginning to feel the tremors of this instability. Investor confidence is waning, and early signs of an economic downturn are emerging. The specter of political unrest looms large, threatening to derail progress and development in the region.

The broader geopolitical implications of Romania’s increasingly unstable domestic situation cannot be ignored. As a key member of both NATO and the EU, any instability within Romania reverberates throughout Europe.

Romania finds itself at a crossroads, with its democratic integrity hanging in the balance. Whether the nation can weather this storm and restore trust in its political system remains an open question—one with significant implications for the future of Eastern Europe.

The Diplomatic Affairs think tank has organized the Eastern Europe Peace Forum, which is set to take place in May at the People’s House, also known as the Palace of the Parliament, in Bucharest. Originally scheduled for early April, the event has been postponed to May.

According to Romanian media reports, both Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson are expected to attend the conference.
