Robert F. Kennedy Jr., now serving as Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Trump, made waves on Monday when he joined Sean Hannity for an interview at a Florida Steak ‘n Shake location.

The two conservative powerhouses dug into burgers and fries while discussing the real health crisis gripping America—one caused by decades of government-endorsed junk science that pushed seed oils and ultra-processed foods on the public.

Earlier this year, Steak ‘n Shake announced that by February 2025, all its locations will transition away from vegetable oil—a product long criticized for its links to inflammation, obesity, and chronic disease.

“Our fries will now be cooked in an authentic way, 100% beef tallow, in order to achieve the highest quality and best taste,” said Chris Ward, chief supply chain officer for Steak ‘n Shake.

The move marks a dramatic shift away from the seed oil industrial complex, which has dominated the fast-food industry for years under the guise of “healthier eating.”

According to RFK Jr., these oils—often derived from soybeans, canola, and corn—are a key culprit behind America’s obesity epidemic and skyrocketing rates of chronic disease.

On Monday, RFK Jr. was spotted at a Steak ‘n Shake with Sean Hannity.

The interview, which aired its first half on Monday, March 10, 2025, showcased Kennedy’s push to make America healthy again, one tallow-fried spud at a time.

On Hannity’s show, Kennedy didn’t hold back. Sitting across from Hannity at a Florida Steak ‘n Shake, he dug into a burger and fries while hammering home a message that’s been a cornerstone of his platform: America’s health crisis stems from the processed junk we’ve been force-fed for decades.

Sean Hannity:
Thank you so much for doing this. We really appreciate it. Before you got here, I already had a burger, so I’m having another. I’m breaking my diet. I am pretty much full-on keto—I eat basically meat and eggs—but I made an exception today.

I had it on a bun, and I really enjoyed it. It was really good. Explain the difference between seed oil and tallow and why this is a big deal—why they said, “We are going to RFK Steak ‘n Shake.”

RFK Jr.:
You know, processed foods contain seed oil as one of their components, and all the science indicates that ultra-processed foods are the principal culprit behind this extraordinary explosion—the epidemic we have—of chronic disease.

When my uncle was president, 3% of Americans had chronic disease. Today, 60% do. We have 66% of adults who are diabetic or pre-diabetic—38% of teens.

When you and I were kids, Sean, the average pediatrician would see one case of juvenile diabetes in his lifetime, over a 40- or 50-year career. Today, one out of every three kids who walks through his office door is diabetic or pre-diabetic.

Diabetes and other mitochondrial diseases are now costing America more than our military budget. We spend two to three times more on healthcare than other countries, yet we have the worst outcomes—even though we have the best medical system in the world. We are poisoning ourselves, and it’s coming primarily from these ultra-processed foods.

What we’re trying to do—and President Trump wants us to have—is radical transparency and to incentivize companies like this one to switch to traditional ingredients like beef tallow.

RFK Jr.:
Steak ‘n Shake just switched over, and people are raving about these French fries. You’ve tasted them.

Sean Hannity:
Amazing. They really are.

RFK Jr.:
When I was a kid, I traveled in Europe. You know, Europe is great—it’s always had great food—but the French fries were always a disappointment because we had the best fries here. They had pommes frites over there, and they just didn’t taste right.

Today, the best French fries in the world are in Europe. I order them every time I go to Belgium or France or anywhere else. The fries here just don’t taste right. But you taste these—it’s a completely different experience, and the customers are raving about it.

Other companies—Steak ‘n Shake has been great; we’re very grateful for them for “RFK-ing” the French fries. They turned me into a verb. But also, Popeyes—by the way, a plastic straw!

Sean Hannity:
Thank you! Thank God. I can’t stand those paper straws. I hate them.

RFK Jr.:
You hate the sea turtles, right? But Popeyes, Outback, Sweetgreen, Buffalo Wild Wings.

They’ve all made the switch or are in transition to make the switch. We want to do everything we can to incentivize these companies to be transparent, switch away from ultra-processed food, and be part of this movement to make America healthier.

Sean Hannity:
And as Health and Human Services Secretary, there is great paranoia and fear that you’re going to force people or take things away from them, that you’re going to force companies to do what Steak ‘n Shake freely decided to do. That’s not the case, right?

RFK Jr.:
I mean, I have a libertarian outlook. People should be able to make their own choices. If you want to eat a donut or seed oils, you should be able to—but you should be able to make an informed choice. You should know what’s in your food and what the health impacts are.

That’s all we’re going to do. We’re going to incentivize companies to be transparent and inform Americans about what’s making them sick. Nobody wants to be sick.

[..]
There re studies coming out of Stanford and Harvard that show a lot of mental illness, including anxiety and depression, are related to food and that changing your diet.

Food is medicine. By changing your diet, you can lose some of those diagnoses. And, you know, this, Sean, is a uniquely American problem. This is not happening like it is here elsewhere in the world. When my uncle was present, 3% of Americans were obese.

As you pointed out, it’s now 80, close to 80% of adults, 50% of children. But in Japan, it’s still 3%.
