A South Carolina man was executed via firing squad on Friday, the first execution of its kind in 15 years.
Bradon Sigmon was convicted in 2001 of murdering David and Gladys Larke with a baseball bat before abducting his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint.
However, she was able to escape the attack despite his efforts to kill her.

The South Carolina Department of Corrections confirmed that Brad Sigmon, 67, was executed at 18:05 on Friday and was pronounced dead several minutes later.
Sigmon was secured to a chair with a target positioned over his heart.
A hood was then pulled over his head before three volunteer marksmen from the Corrections Department fired specialized rounds intended to break apart on impact.
His attorneys said that their client wanted his final statement “to be one of love and a calling to my fellow Christians to help us end the death penalty.”
“An eye for an eye was used as justification to the jury for seeking the death penalty,” the statement read.
“At that time, I was too ignorant to know how wrong that was.”
”Why? Because we no longer live under the Old Testament law, but now live under the New Testament.”

Three members of the victim’s family were present at the execution, as well as Sigmon’s spiritual advisor.
Sigmon had petitioned the South Carolina Supreme Court to block his execution but was unsuccessful.
After his request was rejected, Sigmon requested death by firing squad as a state-approved method of execution. The other methods are the electric chair and lethal injection.
“He knows what the firing squad is going to do to his body — he knows it’s going to break his bones, he knows it’s gonna pulverize his organs,” his attorney added.
“And it’s a measure of how impossible the choice was here.”
