Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson testifies during House Oversight Committee hearing
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) grilled Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson during a House Oversight Committee Wednesday, asking him under oath about his sanctuary city policies that prioritize illegals.
Sanctuary City Mayors Eric Adams of New York City, Mike Johnston of Denver, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, and Michelle Wu of Boston testified on Wednesday during a hearing investigating their “refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.”
During the hearing, Rep. Virginia Foxx probed the Mayors and forced them to admit how much their city has spent caring for illegal aliens in the last four years.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson refused to give a number but said 1% of his city’s budget over the last four years was spent on illegal aliens. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston spent $79 million over the last two years. New York Mayor Eric Adams said his city has spent roughly 6.9 billion. Boston Mayor Wu said she doesn’t know because “we do not ask about immigration status in giving city services and providing that access.”
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL) criminally referred the four mayors to the DOJ for investigation.
“You are in direct violation of 8 U.S. Code § 1324,” Rep. Luna said, accusing the mayors of aiding and abetting. “I’m all going to be criminally referring you to the Department of Justice for investigation, and as soon as I leave here, these will be going over to Pam Bondi.”

Rep. Brandon Gill tore into Brandon Johnson, America’s most unpopular mayor, with questions about what kind of government assistance illegals are receiving as Americans struggle.
The issues Johnson supports and wants in his city include driver’s licenses for illegals, health care for illegals, free or reduced college for illegals, voting rights for illegals, and government-funded abortions for illegals.
Johnson struggled to answer the first question about driver’s licenses for illegals, freezing up for five seconds before dodging the yes or no question. He did the same with the other questions, giving vague and political answers.
WATCH:
Gill: Mayor Johnson, I want to start with you. One of your first actions as mayor was establishing a Deputy Mayor for immigrant, migrant, and refugee rights. I want to ask you a series of questions. If you could answer with a yes or no answer, that’d be great. First of all, do you support allowing illegal aliens to obtain driver’s licenses? Just yes or no.
Johnson: So the city of Chicago has been a welcoming city for over 40 years… and that’s the policy that we will hold to.
Gill: I’ll take that as a yes. Next question, do you support tax dollars subsidizing or paying for the health care of illegal aliens?
Johnson: I support investments in all residents of the people of Chicago, and that’s what I do.
Gill: That’s a yes as well. Do you support free or reduced college for illegal aliens?
Johnson: Again, I support the investments of all residents of the people of Chicago.
Gill: That is a yes. Next question, do you support allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections?
Johnson: Again, I’m not over the jurisdiction of that type of law, but again, I’m committed to investing in all residents.
Gill: I’ll take that as a yes. I’ve got an article from the Chicago Sun Times, and I’ll quote here briefly: “Johnson proposed, among other things, that all residents, regardless of citizenship status, be able to vote for Chicago Board of Education members.” Next question, your website states and this is your campaign website: “I will not stop fighting until abortion access is completely secure for people all over the country.” yes or no, do you support taxpayer funded abortions for illegal aliens?
Johnson: I support the reproductive rights of all people, all women.
Gill: That is a yes as well. Your mayoral transition website mentioned support for creating a Chicago Board of Education non-citizen advisory board. Again, yes or no, do you support appointing non-citizens to government advisory boards?
Johnson: I was invited here today to discuss the welcoming cities… If you’re interested in asking questions about the welcoming cities, I’m happy to answer those questions.
