OPEN COMMS: After Trump and Putin Talk, Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Lavrov Work on ‘Foreign Conflict Issues’ and To ‘Restore Mutually Respectful Interstate Dialogue’

Europe is still reeling from the shock of knowing that the US and Russia are openly negotiating peace – in Ukraine and elsewhere – without the European ‘powers’ participation, but the two nuclear superpowers are still proceeding with high-level negotiations at break-neck speed.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in which he emphasized President Donald Trump’s willingness and readiness to end the conflict in Ukraine.

The two also discussed cooperation on other geopolitical issues, according to the State Department.

Daily Wrap reported:

“’The Secretary re-affirmed President Trump’s commitment to finding an end to the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, they discussed the opportunity to potentially work together on a number of other bilateral issues’, the American diplomatic department said in a brief three-sentence statement after Saturday’s conversation between the U.S. and Russian foreign ministers.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry also wrote about the conversation between them, indicating the possibility of a broader reestablishment of Washington-Moscow relations.

“’Lavrov and Rubio confirmed their readiness to work together to restore mutually respectful interstate dialogue in accordance with the tone set by the presidents (…). They agreed on regular contacts, including those for preparations for a Russian-American summit meeting’, reads a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Russian diplomatic department also conveyed that the politicians advocated for maintaining communication channels to ‘resolve the problems that have accumulated in U.S.-Russian relations’. The statement also mentioned a ‘mutual commitment’ to cooperate on international matters, including the context of the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.”

Rubio is expected to participate in talks with the Russian delegation in Saudi Arabia. Besides him, Special Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz will be present for the American side.

Putin and Trump: Ukraine and Europe are shocked by the sudden onset of diplomatic activity between the two superpowers.

Reuters reported:

“Lavrov and Rubio, in a call initiated by the U.S., agreed to maintain contacts to resolve problems in bilateral relations, ‘in the interests of removing the unilateral barriers to mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation inherited from the previous administration’, Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement.”

It’s not clear what ‘barriers’ were discussed, but speculation says it deals with the multiple waves of Biden-regime sanctions on Moscow.

“The U.S. State Department said Rubio reaffirmed in the call Trump’s commitment to finding an end to the conflict in Ukraine. ‘In addition, they discussed the opportunity to potentially work together on a number of other bilateral issues’, it said in a statement, without providing further detail.

They agreed to work on restoring ‘mutually respectful interstate dialogue’ in line with the tone set by the presidents, the ministry said.”
