Oklahoma State Senator Regina Goodwin (D-Tulsa) has sparked outrage after a shocking display of arrogance and entitlement during a routine traffic stop.
Goodwin was pulled over by Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy Freddie Alaniz for running two stop signs and speeding, but instead of taking responsibility like any law-abiding citizen, she chose to argue, deflect, and play the victim.
“Ma’am, I’m not going to ask you again. Can I get your driver’s license, or can I take you to jail on running a stop sign?” Alaniz asked Goodwin. “I’m not going to ask you again. It’s not for debate.”
When asked to hand over her license—a simple, lawful request—she refused more than 10 times, forcing the deputy to take further action.

In typical Democrat fashion, Goodwin accused the officer of escalating the situation, deflecting responsibility rather than acknowledging her own defiance.
Initially, the deputy intended to issue only a verbal warning.
However, Goodwin’s combative attitude and blatant disregard for the law ultimately led to her being placed in handcuffs.
Even then, she avoided jail time, walking away with a citation and a court date.
Body camera footage obtained by Fox News captures the tense encounter between Sen. Goodwin and Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy Freddie Alaniz.

Fox23 has reached out to Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols for comment regarding his unexpected presence at the scene of Senator Regina Goodwin’s traffic stop. Nichols claimed he did not interfere with the police proceedings and was reportedly there only to check on his former colleague.
“Over the weekend on Jan. 11, I had been working at City Hall when a mutual acquaintance called to say one of my colleagues was pulled over for a traffic stop that occurred around the corner,” the statement said.
“Ms. Goodwin and I were colleagues in the State House of Representatives, and I stopped by at the end of the incident to ensure everyone was okay. When I arrived, the incident had already occurred, a traffic ticket was being written for Ms. Goodwin and at no point did I interfere or influence the officers involved in the stop.
My dad was a police officer, and I have the utmost respect for law enforcement and was thankful for the professional manner of the Sheriff’s Office. At the time when this occurred, I showed up as Monroe to the scene and as a former colleague – I did not identify myself as mayor. With the incident already being over, and a ticket in the Senator’s hand, everyone went their separate ways.”
The Republican Party of Tulsa County has issued a strong statement condemning the behavior of Goodwin and is demanding a public apology to the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Tulsa County.
“The conduct of these elected officials is unbecoming of the offices they each respectively hold, therefore the Republican Party of Tulsa County calls for them to issue a public apology to Deputy Alaniz, the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department, their constituents and the citizens of Tulsa County.
We are to be examples to our youth and as an elected official should be held to a higher standard than most.
At a time when municipalities across the nation experience extreme challenges filling the vacancies in their police and sheriff’s department, and morale is at an all-time low, these actions do nothing to improve confidence in our recruitment process.”
