Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens.

Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens announced that he is retiring in April. He has been chief since he was promoted in 2023. Mike Banks, the Texas Border Czar, is in line to replace him as the next chief.

Owens described his departure as “bittersweet” but also said he was happy because he made a difference. He also was quoted as saying, “it’s time to hand it off to the next generation.”

When asked about the surge in illegal aliens crossing the border and how it affected the agents in the Border Patrol, Owens had said that it was the worst situation in the duration of his career. He said agents would at times have to do CPR on infants and then deal with other types of situations including catching gang members and felons.

Fox News Reported:

Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens is stepping down from his role as head of the agency – telling Fox News that his agents have given 100% in difficult conditions, including some of the worst conditions he’s seen in his entire career.

Owens, who was promoted to Border Patrol Chief in 2023, is retiring in April. Texas Border Czar Mike Banks will be tapped to be the next chief.

Owens spoke to Fox News about his time as chief during some of the most intense moments of the crisis at the southern border. He said it was “bittersweet” because it is the end of a chapter in his life.

“That takes a toll on anybody. And what I saw was those men and women deal with that not just once in a while, but daily and every single day. No matter how frustrated they got, they get up the next morning, they put that uniform on and they went out there and they give 100%. I owed them 100% as well,” he (Owens) said. Fox News Reported.

Chief Owens said he is confident about Banks taking over the Border Patrol and also views him as a friend.

Once President Trump is sworn into office, he made a commitment to lock down the border and begin mass deportations of illegal aliens.
