CNN’s Abby Phillip on Laura Loomer’s X Suspension: ‘Free Speech Apparently Doesn’t Apply to Criticizing Elon Musk’

CNN pundit Abby Phillip asserted that “free speech apparently doesn’t apply to criticizing Elon Musk” while discussing independent journalist Laura Loomer’s suspension from his platform.

Loomer was deverified and removed from the X subscription platform on Friday after a disagreement with Musk about H-1B visas.

Conservative Org, an America First PAC affiliated with Loomer, was also removed as a verified organization, and the roughly 40 affiliated influencers, including this reporter, lost their verification badges.

During an X Space about the de-verification, Loomer was alerted that she was notified that she was suspended from the platform for 12 hours.

The issue was discussed during a NewsNight on CNN panel on Friday.

During the panel, Phillips pointed out the hypocrisy of Musk, who has long claimed to be a warrior for free speech.

“One of the other subplots of all of this is what’s been going on on X because Laura Loomer, Elon Musk having this fight has resulted in him apparently – well, allegedly, according to her – banning her from certain features of Twitter, basically closing off all of her subscribers,” Phillips said.

The CNN host continued, “She’s saying that this is basically cancel culture that Elon Musk doesn’t like what she’s been saying and has basically locked her out of the platform. It would not be the first time that this is he’s been accused of doing something like that.”

Panelist Coleman Hughes hoped Musk would not be a hypocrite on the issue of free speech.

Phillip responded, “Well, the free speech apparently doesn’t apply to criticizing Elon Musk.”
